Persons with Disabilities in the City: Participation in Political and Public Life.
Thursday, March 10, 2022, 14:00 CET
Conference in Paris as part of the EDF Board meeting
The number of persons with disabilities is now estimated at 15% of the European population. Persons with disabilities face a multitude of barriers in their daily lives that affect their full participation in the city – accessibility of buildings, transport, services – but also in public and political life.
The purpose of this conference is to share national and European reflections and experiences, in the light of the principles set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to which the European Union and its members are signatories. The focus will be on citizenship as a particular issue for persons with disabilities, and more particularly with regard to
- Participation in democratic, political and institutional life
- Representation in democratic and associative bodies
- Accessibility of election campaigns and candidacy
- Mobility in an accessible city and transport
The Conference will take place in person at the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health (Salle Laroque) and by videoconference. Audio interpretation in English and French, International Sign Interpretation and live captions in English will be provided.
